The little things make the biggest difference
1. Plant more trees
-
Within every tree there lives at least one faerie. The older trees in the world are a home to an entire community of faerie folk. Every tree planted helps the environment on all levels for animals, humans and faeries
-
2. Recycle
- Reduce- avoid waste. Look for ways of producing and using goods that stop waste being generated. Choose products that can be used productively, recycled in your area, and have minimum packaging
- Re-use containers, packaging or waste products.
- Recycle waste material into usable products
3. Switch off
- an empty room needs no light
- turn electricity off from power points
4. Go easy on the gas
- fuel continues to burn away at natures resources. Find ways of travelling that doesn't take so much from the earth. Ride your bike, catch public transport or carpool
5. Eat vegetarian
-
half the rain forests in the world have been destroyed to clear ground to graze cattle that will make beef burgers. The burning of the forests contributes 20% of all green house gases. Roughly 1000 species a year become extinct because of the destruction of the rain forests.
-
The worlds fresh water shortage is being made worse by animal farming. Meat producers are the biggest polluters of water. It takes 2500 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat
6. Buy locally
-
transportation of food and natural resources requires a lot of unnecessary energy. With the rising prices of fuel, food is becoming more expensive. By buying local you can support your community and your nations ecosystem.
-
Some countries such as Australia have strict importing guidelines with many foods going through a vigorous process before entering. Food irradiation is a processing technique with similar results to freezing or pasteurisation. During this procedure the food is exposed to doses of ionising energy, or radiation. At low doses, irradiation extends a product’s shelf life. At higher doses, this process kills insects, moulds, bacteria and other potentially harmful micro-organisms.
-
Buying locally means you are likely getting fully matured, ready to eat, in season foods.
7. Support businesses that support the environment
- It is up to us to, to support those, that support the environment.
8. Be water wise
-
It is everyone's responsibility
9. Don't dump your rubbish
-
Faeries are everywhere in nature and don't like it when humans dump their rubbish in their habitats. Make sure that you dispose of your rubbish appropriately and don't spoil nature for anyone else.
10. Care for soil
-
composting is a natural process whereby micro-organisms transform organic waste materials into a soil-like produce called humus. Kitchen scraps, leaves and yard waste, paper, wood, food processing wastes, as well as agricultural crop wastes and animal manures, are excellent organic waste materials that can be composted.
11. Buy organic
-
tastes better, it's healthy, no nasty additives, avoids pesticides, GM- free, reliance on drugs removed, no hidden costs, high standards, care for animals, good for wildlife and the environment
12. Make friends with your closest nature reserve or water way
-
The more we love and respect nature, the more we are willing to do our part to protect it. Be part of nature and share in the rich colours of your local nature reserve.
13. Look for family pets from animal shelters
-
Be a responsible pet owner by discussing the role of animal welfare with the entire family. Make sure you are willing to provide the best care for an animal for the entire duration of their lives.
-
There are many unwanted pets at animal shelters that are looking for a family to be part of. Look up the RSPCA and SAFE networks in your local community to see what animals need your love and care
